BackgroundThe Streatham Pool Club was the second opened by Amity, and founded in 1974. Today, it is the longest surviving Amity Reading Club in a single location. However, within the Streatham Pool building itself we have seen a number of changes, and are now housed in Meeting Room 1 at the rear of the building. The Club itself is lively, drawing on a wide range of Volunteers and several Students who have been with us for more than ten years. The Club normally meets for some forty four Thursday evenings a year between 7.15 p.m. and 9.15 p.m.except for breaks for Christmas, Easter and the Summer. Dates for holidays are published on the Amity Venue Update page.
VenueStreatham Pool was built in the 1930's, and is typical of the architectureof that period. It is close to Streatham Common open space and the nearby Streatham Bus Garage, which means there are a huge range of bus services to choose from. Streatham BR Station is less than 2 minutes walk. The Pool is situated at: 384 Streatham High Road Click here if you would like to see a location map provided by multiMAP. Disabled access to the main Pool building is good in general, and recently this has been extended to Meeting Room 1, used by the Club. Advanced warning with details of your disability is still essential however, so we can help you navigate the large heavy doors and the security system. The use of the premises is made available to us free of charge by the generous support of the London Borough of Lambeth to whom we are most grateful.
