Introduction

Amity's unique style of operation has been refined and developed over the past 25 years. 

During this time, we have demonstrated it to many visitors from all over the country, who have been keen to learn about our work and incorporate it into their own style of operation.

However, the Internet has generated a level of interest in our approach which cannot be satisfied by visits to operating clubs, so we have had to find other ways to communicate our style and approach to adult literacy tuition.

Amity Reading Clubs' "A Good Practice Manual to organising and operating an Amity Reading Club" has been our response to this need.

What is in the Manual

The Manual examines every aspect of organising and operating an Amity Reading Club; it includes advice on setting up a voluntary organisation; gives details of the roles and responsibilities of those involved; examines the recruitment and retention of students and volunteers; explores Amity's Social Support Policy; exploiting and supporting the use of IT for tuition and administration; and much more.

In addition, it includes advice on areas such as networking; training; operating a web site; health and safety responsibilities; equal opportunities policy and fund raising.   It includes models of our constitution; sample forms and leaflets; equal opportunities and health and safety policies and a wide range of contact details for organisations in the basic skills area, including web page links where appropriate.

The Manual is in Word 97 format.  Cross references are automated so you simply need to click on a link to go straight there; the table of contents is also automated, click on the page number and you go there automatically.  Use the "back" button to return to your starting point.
